RE: Al Hrabosky Should be in the Cardinals HOF and Deserves a Red Jacket

Dear Sir,

I am writing to you to petition to have Al Hrabosky enter the Cardinals HOF in the same manner as Mike Shannon’s inclusion in 2014. Mr. Hrabosky was drafted by the Cardinals in 1969 as a number one draft, played for the Cardinals for 7 plus years, and has now been broadcasting for 37 years. His career as a player, broadcaster, community charity activist, and ambassador has enriched the Cardinal Brand and the Greater St. Louis Community. He should be honored and rewarded for that in the later stages of his career and life. He has been a colorful player and broadcaster as the “Mad Hungarian” for the franchise and for MLB. As you know much about Mr. Hrabosky, I will only cite some highlights below outlining his worthiness.

1969 Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals as their #1 pick.
1969 Posted back-to-back 17-strikeout games.
1975 Named 1975 National League Fireman of the Year by posting a 13-3 record with league-high 22 saves and a 1.67 ERA with the Cardinals.
1975 Unanimous NL Pitcher-of-the-Month in July 1975.
1976 Awarded Rolaids Relief Man for St. Louis Cardinals.
1978 Member of the Kansas City Royals 1978 American League Western Division championship team.
1978 Awarded Rolaids Relief Man for Kansas City Royals.
1979 Awarded Rolaids Relief Man for Kansas City Royals.
1982 Member of the Atlanta Braves 1982 American League Western Division championship team.
1982 Has one of the all-time best winning percentages for a relief pitcher.
1985 Hired as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals broadcasting team.
2003 Inducted Missouri HOF
2007 Received the title "Hungarian Ambassador to Baseball" from the Hungarian Ambassador to the United States.
2016 Inducted St. Louis Sports HOF
2022 Recipient of the Jack Buck Media Award Recipient “For his service to Baseball as a distinguished Member of the St. Louis Media whose work embodies the principles of Hall of Fame Legend, Jack Buck”.
Received the "Ambassador's Award for Sports Diplomacy" from the American Embassy in Hungary.
Along with the above, Al continues to be involved in the Cardinals Fantasy Camp, dating back to when Randy Hundley started the Fantasy Camp in the 1980s. He has been on many Cardinals Caravans, school visits, Cardinal Cruises, Cardinal Care events, and the Kaufman Fund. His work enriches the Community and the St. Louis Cardinal Brand.

I truly hope you and the St. Louis Cardinals reward him and his family for all that he has done and continues to do for the franchise and community. Al has earned and deserves a “Red Jacket” and the honor of being included in all the ceremonies that come with that. Let’s put him in a convertible on Opening Day!

Thank you for your attention!

Sincerely,

Long Time Cardinal Fan!
